Jenny Jones - Let them knit cake! (or crochet)My Nan says that the beauty of knitting things is that you think of the person who you're making it for while you make it and so your love for that person goes into whatever you're making and makes it extra special. I haven't got the patience for jumpers really so when I became a mother I taught myself to knit and crochet to keep my brain busy while looking after a tiny baby and so that I could make small things for my son that are unique and full of character. Now that he's a toddler and enjoys having tea parties I have gone into production knitting and crocheting food for him and his friends. I also sell them on my occasional stall at the Tobacco Factory market (see me there next around Xmas time) and I try to imagine who is going to buy them and what fun they'll have with them while I make them. Most of the cakes from my stall are bought for adults, which makes me think that we'd all like to spend more time having pretend tea parties. My Mum and my Nan knit my son drawers full of wonderful jumpers every winter and I make sandwiches, fondant fancies, cupcakes, hot cross buns, vegetables, fruit and the occasional woodlouse for him to play with while he's wearing them.
