88cakes The biggest club in the world

Alice Hendy

Ingredients: Paper, glue, masking tape, baby cotton wool and dish cloths (for padding inside the cake), buttons.

Alice Hendy - The Biggest Club in the WorldIn making this cake I’ve been exploring the gains and losses that motherhood has brought me. Having been an independent and solitary person I have struggled to adjust to my new role at times and have experienced a certain grief for the passing of my old life. This grief is coupled with an intense love for my new family. I hope to show a little of these emotions in my choice of pattern for the cake (floral, holey and feminine in a conventional way) mixed with the honest words about my experiences. The text loosely resembles a letter to my daughter but is more of a series of notes and observations I’ve written in my diary. The cake has an unfinished feel. I wanted it to look like a ‘work in progress’ model to echo my feelings about my new role.
