88cakes The biggest club in the world |
Alice Hendy
Ingredients: Paper, glue, masking tape, baby cotton wool and dish cloths (for padding inside the cake), buttons.
In making this cake I’ve been exploring the gains and losses that motherhood has brought me. Having been an independent and solitary person I have struggled to adjust to my new role at times and have experienced a certain grief for the passing of my old life. This grief is coupled with an intense love for my new family. I hope to show a little of these emotions in my choice of pattern for the cake (floral, holey and feminine in a conventional way) mixed with the honest words about my experiences. The text loosely resembles a letter to my daughter but is more of a series of notes and observations I’ve written in my diary. The cake has an unfinished feel. I wanted it to look like a ‘work in progress’ model to echo my feelings about my new role.
