Good Grief

In April 2011’s Prototype at the Tobacco Factory, we presented a duet that was devised through company practices. In it, we played two variety performers/ clowns, one of whom is grieving a close family member, recently killed in tragic circumstances and the other, their devoted friend and colleague.  We explored what might happen if the grieving performer is compelled to express something about her loss within their “happy” show.

Here are some things that audience members said that night

"Brilliant!"

"You were funny.  I don't know if that is what you wanted but you were just very funny."

"I loved it!  You were both brilliant.  Great take on grief. Great timing. You both were very funny."

"lovely piece, great potential"

"It reminded me of early French and Saunders"

"Amazing. Really brave."

This work is draws strongly on our real life experienes with death and grieving.  We will be developing it through Bristol Old Vic's Ferment.  If you are interested in learning more about this work, please do contact us.
